Frequently asked questions
What qualifications do I need to apply?
While having formal teaching qualifications or certifications is definitely a plus, it’s not a strict requirement. We offer a comprehensive training program that will equip you with all the basics you need. The key requirements are fluency in English and having at least a matric qualification. If you're passionate about teaching and eager to learn, we’d love to hear from you!
What are the technical requirements for teaching online?
To ensure a smooth and effective teaching experience, you'll need a reliable computer that can run our ClassIn software seamlessly. Most modern laptops are perfectly suitable. Additionally, a good quality camera and microphone are essential so that students can see and hear you clearly. A stable internet connection with a good speed is also important to minimize any lag during lessons. Lastly, teaching in a well-lit environment or using a good key light will help ensure that your students can easily see your facial expressions and stay engaged.
What is the application process like?
Once you apply on our website and provide your basic information, our team will conduct a pre-selection review. If you pass this initial stage, we'll reach out to you via WhatsApp and email. You'll then be asked to submit your CV and a short introduction video (about 40 seconds to one minute long). Following this, we’ll schedule an interview, and once the interview is successfully completed, you'll begin your training with us.
What kind of training and support do you offer?
We provide comprehensive training that covers everything you need to know about teaching our students successfully. This includes how to use our teaching materials, navigating the software, and sharing valuable tips and tricks for engaging with students online. We ensure you have all the tools and skills needed to thrive. Plus, our support is available 24/7, and each teacher is assigned a dedicated mentor to provide ongoing guidance and support.
What are the working hours, and is the schedule flexible?
Our working hours run between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, but you're free to choose the times and number of classes you'd like to teach within that range. Each class is 25 minutes long, with a 5-minute break in between, and you can schedule your sessions in 30-minute slots. This allows you to build a teaching schedule that suits your lifestyle. If you need to make changes to your schedule, we kindly ask for at least one week’s notice to ensure consistency for our students.
How much can I expect to earn?
New teachers can expect to earn between $7 and $10 per hour, depending on their experience and the demand for their classes. As you gain more experience and build a strong rapport with students, there’s definitely room for growth and increased earnings over time. We believe in rewarding dedication and excellence!
What is the student demographic like?
As a teacher, you'll be working with children from China, typically ranging in age from 4 to 14 years old. Our students come with a wide range of English proficiencies—some are just beginning to learn English, while others are already quite fluent. We carefully match teachers with students based on teaching style and experience to ensure the best possible learning experience for each child.
What kind of teaching materials and curriculum are provided?
At our institute, parents prefer a consistent learning experience for their children, so we provide all teaching materials in advance through our software. This ensures that each teacher can seamlessly continue from where the previous lesson ended. Our curriculum includes a variety of engaging resources like Wonderskills, Power Up, National Geographic, Oxford Discovery, and many more. This way, teachers can focus on delivering great lessons without having to create their own materials.
How does payment work?
Our teachers are paid every two weeks via PayPal, ensuring a reliable and convenient payment process. To make transactions even smoother, we recommend having an FNB bank account, as FNB works particularly well with PayPal and helps you receive your funds quickly. For more details on how FNB and PayPal work together, you can check out FNB and PAYPAL LINK
What is the class size?
Our classes are one-on-one, meaning you'll be teaching just one student at a time. Occasionally, a younger sibling might be present, but your focus will always remain on the enrolled student. This ensures personalized attention and a tailored learning experience.
Do I need teaching experience?
Prior teaching experience is helpful, but not required. At Magic English, we welcome both new and experienced educators. Our comprehensive training program will guide you through everything you need to know from using our teaching tools to managing your lessons effectively. If you're passionate about helping students learn and you're eager to grow, we’ll help you succeed.
When can I take time off or go on holiday?
Absolutely! You're free to decide when you want to take a break. Just let the institute know at least one week in advance so we can plan around your schedule. At Magic English, you choose your working days and holiday periods — it's all about flexibility and balance.
